The federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and its 1997 amendments make it clear that schools have a duty to educate children with disabilities in general education classrooms.
ReplyDeleteRight Nagraj but what methods should Govt, Schools & Society adopt to make inclusion a reality which still looks like a dream.
ReplyDelete1. Government should reflect commitment to education in national budgets
Delete2. It should secure essential funding for education in emergencies
3. We should protect education and reinforce its contributions to peace building
4. Schools and society should provide a better start for children
5. Government should provide a better prospect for youth
6. Teachers should support creativity and innovation
In 1996, the Government of India enacted the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act (PWD Act) of 1995 (Ministry of Law Justice and Company Affairs, 1996).
ReplyDeleteRight of Children for free and compulsory education Act 2009 was launched as “Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan” program by the Government of India in 2010. It is aimed at the universalization of elementary education of satisfactory quality "in a time bound manner", to children aged 6–14. The program was pioneered by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. SSA is being implemented in partnership with State Governments to cover the entire country and address the needs of 192 million children in 1.1 million habitations.
I think the Act is just mentioned in the Law but is not implemented in the all the schools. Even in today’s scenario very few schools admit the students regardless of their caste, disability, financial position etc. And even if few schools admit the students, they are just treated just like all other students whereas, they do need special attention as well as different learning experiences according to their needs.
ReplyDeleteI feel that we as teachers should take up the responsibility of trying our best to improvise on our teaching- learning strategies in such a way that it tries to reach the needs of every student. We should make it sure that every student we teach has understood the concept. As teachers our first aim should be to understand our learners and the problems they face in learning. Diagnostic test and remedial teaching will help us in understanding this problem.

ReplyDeleteYou have understood the question well and attempted it accordingly. Well done!!!! However rather than making only teachers responsible we must involve all the stakeholders in implementation of these policies and acts in right earnest. Please go through the sub unit on OBSTACLES & BARRIERS in this blog to develop a mature understanding on inclusive education.
Rajeshwari > I feel even though laws have been introduced for inclusive education, but the matter of concern is the implementation..thus it is important not only to frame the laws but also to keep a check on its implementation..only then we will be able to achieve our goals>>
ReplyDeletethe right to education can become a reality only wen people are aware about the right and if they stick to it and file a case incase if any school denies this right .
ReplyDeleteblog was nice , informative and creative with the use of pics
Minu>This right should be implemented with strictness. For disabled students shadow teachers should be provided by school and parents will bear the expense. For the poor government should take the responsibility.
Deletethanx Sonal..it is nice to know that u found the blog informative & creative. waiting for replies on other sub topics too.
DeleteThe rights supporting inclusive education is made by our governing bodies but they have still not strictly implemented in all the schools. There only few schools who have implemented inclusive education in their school.
ReplyDeleteThough such rights we have, government should honestly support and not artificially for name sake. That utmost involvement should come from the hearts of each of our leaders. As a result of such dedication, they could be strict with the schools which doesnt accept inclusive education.
